On the hill above the city of Jaipur, India, the Amber Palace and Fort guard the city. The palace was the residence of the Mongol maharaja and his Hindu bride, and it lives up to its name. Because this is a festival period, the palace was busy with preparations for the celebration, as well. We rode elephants at the foot of the hills guarded by the fort, then took a ride in a Jeep to the palace entrance. The ride back down the hill in the jeep turned out to be an adventure as the Jeep ran out of gas. The driver continued downhill regardless dodging people on foot including security guards, our tour guide, and several people planning to attend the festival celebration.
How exciting! I especially like the last photo. It's beautiful.
ReplyDeletePerhaps I've overlooked it, but I didn't notice any mention of the food.
The photo is the inlay on the Amber Palace at Jaipur. The detail and intricacy of this work is impressive, even more so when you realize this work covered entire buildings. We have eaten mostly in the hotels, unfortunately, so I don't have much comment on the local food. Saturday night, we did eat at an upscale Northwest Indian restaurant featuring kabobs and barbecue. The Indian spices are particularly intriguing for the taste they add and the medicinal and health benefits.
