Cairo

We checked into the Fairmont Nile City Hotel in the early afternoon. The hotel is very nice with large, comfortable rooms, but the main thing about the Fairmont in  Cairo is that the staff seems to genuinely want guests to enjoy their stay at the hotel and in Cairo.

In the evening, the tour group went to the sound and light show at the pyramids of Cheops.  It was interesting to see the pyramids all lit up at night, but largely this show is a disappointment.  It is a slow-moving narrative with a few less than spectacular laser effects and a few images of artifacts projected onto a rock wall.  If you have limited time in Cairo, I recommend skipping this show.

The photos here are Cairo at sunrise (just after 6 AM), one looking toward the east and the other a view from the hotel room of the Nile River.
