Museo del Oro

The Museo del Oro in Bogota is filled with artifacts, mainly of gold, from the pre-Columbian era.

Jewelry. The shadow indicates where the ornamenation was worn. Friar Pedro Simon wrote in 1623: "No indian or woman was without...jewels, necklaces, crowns, rings for the lower lip...fine, well-cut gems, string or beads. All the girls had four or six gold jewels aroun their neck..."  (Caption accompanying this display in the museum).

A poporo. The pin is used to extract lime (a mineral) stored in the gourd to be taken with coca leaves.

Gold ornaments.
